Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions asked by our Customers.

General Rental Questions

How do I make a reservation?

The fastest way is right here on our website! You can see live availability and book 24/7. For same-day needs, give us a call at (435) 708-1927. We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance to ensure your machine is ready when you are.

What do I need at delivery?

You will need a valid Government Issued Photo ID matching the name on the reservation and will need to sign our Equipment Rental Terms and Conditions. We’ll do a quick walk-around to show you the controls and verify the machine's condition. If you are specifically renting a dump trailer to tow, you will need a valid Driver’s License and ensure your vehicle is rated for the load and equipped with a 2-5/16" ball and 7-way round plug.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A security deposit (pre-authorization hold) is required for all rentals. This is processed the day before delivery and is typically released within 7–10 business days after the equipment is returned in good condition.

What is your cancellation policy?

To secure your rental dates, a 25% non-refundable deposit (unless canceled at least 24 Hours in advance) is required at the time of booking. This deposit guarantees that the specific machine is reserved exclusively for your job site. See our full Cancellation Policy

Safety & 811

What safety gear do I need to operate the equipment?

Your safety is our priority. To operate the power equipment, at a minimum we require the following "Big Three" safety items:

  • Eye Protection: Eye Protection: Z87+ rated safety glasses to protect against dust and debris.
  • Hearing Protection: Equipment noise can exceed 100 decibels; use protection to prevent hearing loss.
  • Proper Footwear: Never operate or work around machinery in sandals or flip-flops. Heavy-duty work boots are highly recommended.

Do I need to call 811 before using the equipment?

Yes. If you are doing any digging—even in your own backyard—Utah law requires you to notify Blue Stakes of Utah by dialing 811 or visiting bluestakes.org.

  • Timing: You must call at least two business days before you plan to dig.
  • Cost: The service is free to homeowners and contractors.
  • Liability: Failure to call 811 can result in heavy fines and the customer being held liable for any damage to Underground utility lines.
  • The 2-Foot Rule: You must use hand tools when digging within 24 inches (2 feet) of any utility markings.
  • Ticket Life: A Blue Stakes ticket is valid for 21 days. If your project goes longer, you’ll need to renew it.

Equipment & Usage

Is there a limit on hours of use?

Our daily rate includes 8 engine-meter hours per 24-hour period. If you’re pulling a double shift, don't worry—excess hours are simply billed pro-rata (Daily Rate ÷ 8).

Does the equipment come with fuel?

All equipment is sent out with a full tank. We ask that you return it full unless you purchase the Fuel Service Option. If returned less than full without the option, a refueling fee will be applied.

What is the “Fuel Service Option”?

The Fuel Service Option is a convenience that may be pre-purchased. It provides one tank of fuel at below market rates eliminating the need for the Customer to handle refueling the equipment. However, do not run the diesel fuel tanks dry as this will air-lock the fuel system and will be subject to a service fee to bleed the fuel system.

What is the "8-Hour Grease Rule”?

Heavy equipment lives on grease. You are required to grease all lubrication points every 8 hours of operation. We provide the grease gun and show you the spots at delivery. Note: Failure to maintain lubrication can void your damage protection.

What happens if the equipment breaks down on the job?

Stop operation immediately and call us at (435) 708-1927. We will troubleshoot the issue over the phone or send a technician to your site. Do not attempt to repair the machinery yourself.

What are the local noise ordinances?

In Cedar City, construction noise is generally permitted between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Please be a good neighbor and keep the diesel engine quiet outside of those hours!

Delivery & Logistics

Do you offer delivery?

Yes! We provide professional delivery and pickup for a minimal fee in the Cedar City area. This eliminates your need to rent a trailer or have a heavy-duty tow vehicle.

Can I pickup/return the equipment myself?

To keep our machines (and your transmission) in top shape, we provide professional delivery and pickup for all rentals in the Cedar City area. This saves you the hassle of renting a trailer or finding a heavy-duty hitch.

What if I'm renting a Dump Trailer?

If you are towing one of our dump trailers, your vehicle must be rated for the load and equipped with a 2-5/16" ball and a 7-way round plug. You are responsible for ensuring a secure connection before hitting the road. Trailers must be returned empty and swept clean to avoid disposal fees.

Insurance & Liability

What does the Damage Waiver cover?

Your rental includes a Damage Waiver to protect you from major costs, but you have "skin in the game." You are responsible for the first $1,000.00 of any accidental damage.

What is NOT covered by the waiver?

The waiver protects you from accidents, but it does not cover:

  • Negligence: Damage from "corkscrewing" an auger or ignoring warning lights.
  • Tires & Tracks: Punctures, cuts, or de-tracking are 100% Renter responsibility.
  • Lack of Maintenance: Damage resulting from a failure to follow the 8-hour grease rule.

What about theft?

We’ve got you covered as long as you aren't negligent. If the machine is stolen, the waiver applies only if you have secured the equipment, returned the original keys to us, and provided a formal police report within 24 hours. Every machine is GPS-tracked for added security.

Am I responsible for personal vehicle damage?

Yes. You are responsible for any damage to your vehicle.

  • Hitch & Capacity: It is the customer's responsibility to ensure their vehicle has the correct towing capacity and a properly rated hitch.
  • The Loading Process: While we may assist in hooking up the trailer, the driver is ultimately responsible for ensuring the connection is secure before pulling onto public roads.

Am I responsible for property damage?

Yes. You are 100% responsible for any damage the equipment causes to property, including:

  • Structures: Houses, fences, or sheds.
  • Landscaping: Driveways, sidewalks, or underground sprinklers.
  • Utilities: Power lines or water pipes (this is why calling 811 is a requirement).
  • Bystanders: Any injury caused to third parties during operation.
